Apex Healer: The Wolf’s Prayer is an ongoing series of watercolor and ink paintings developed through the archetypal framework of Tarot. The project explores wolves as apex predators and integral ecological beings, inviting reflection on intelligence, kinship, and the relationships that sustain living systems. 

The healthy balance they provide for wilderness and all creatures is why I have chosen for this body of work the title Apex Healer.

These paintings are invitations to encounter wolves and wilderness as a whole as integral to the fabric of reality, rather than as static symbols on the fringe of a human-centric world.  This body of work focuses on the inherent spirituality of wolves as expressed through their intelligence, familial bonds, and relationships within the ecological systems they inhabit.

The paintings in the Major Arcana of Apex Healer represent formative spiritual events.  I have composed these cards with the dynamic energy relating to each cards theme that integrate cosmic and terrestrial imagery.

Suit of Songs Selections


The Suit of Songs emphasize intellect and consciousness. The song of the wolf’s howl allows them to communicate complexity of thought across vast, airy spaces, inspiring my use of skies, flight, and light as symbology in this suit.

Suit of Trees Selections


The Suit of Trees is imbued with  the spark of life, growth, and creation.   I include verdant imagery of forests and plant life in this suit to evoke the relationship between wolf activity and the regeneration of forests.

Suit of Tides Selections


The Suit of Tides illustrate the emotional and relational. The wolves depicted in this suit are actors in fluid environments reflecting their emotional capacity. Wolves, like water, adapt to their environment, accepting and healing the ecosystems as long as they run freely.

Suit of Bones Selections


The Suit of Bones are concerned with the material experience of life including themes like abundance, skillfulness, and perseverance. I painted the suit of bones with imagery that points back to the earth, the circle of life, and trophic cascades associated with wolves.
